// what I do

Full-stack engineering, end to end

Ten-plus years across web, mobile and cloud — building maintainable systems that scale over time, not just features that work temporarily.

Full-Stack Development

React, Next.js, Node.js and TypeScript end to end — from UI to backend services.

Mobile Engineering

React Native / Expo apps with iOS & Android integrations, deep linking, push notifications, RevenueCat and analytics.

APIs & Data

GraphQL with Apollo Server/Client, REST, Firebase Cloud Functions, PostgreSQL and Firestore.

Cloud & DevOps

AWS (ECR, EKS, Route53), Docker, CI/CD and Bitrise pipelines with deployment automation.

Performance & Scale

Caching strategies, data warmers and optimization pipelines for apps used by thousands of users.

Technical Leadership

Mentoring, code review and software design — aligning engineering with Product, SEO, BI and Growth.

Products I've built & scaled

From my own products to platforms used by thousands of bettors every day.

My product

Skillpato

My own product — a skill-assessment platform for developers

Helps developers prepare for technical roles by practicing job-ready questions and building a verified skill score that represents real ability — not just certifications. Competitive leaderboards, leagues, badges and streaks, shareable public profiles with LinkedIn integration, learning resources and job listings. Installable PWA with opt-in push reminders. Bilingual (EN/ES).

My product

Quizpato

My own product — a bilingual trivia game about what's happening now

A free trivia site in English and Spanish: a daily trivia, six categories, and questions about what people are reading this week, each with the short story behind the answer. Challenge a friend with a link — no account needed — then climb streaks and weekly leagues. An AI content engine on AWS Lambda researches topics, writes EN/ES question twins and verifies every answer against its source. Installable PWA with push notifications. Built on Skillpato's architecture, with different features for a different audience: casual players instead of developers.

OddsTrader

Sports-betting odds comparison — web + mobile app

A platform that aggregates live betting lines across many sportsbooks so bettors can line-shop for the best price across NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and more. I built and scaled the web app and the companion React Native / Expo mobile app: GraphQL/Apollo data layer, subscriptions via RevenueCat, attribution via AppsFlyer, push notifications, deep linking, analytics and AWS deployment.

// about me

The person behind the code

📍 Puntarenas, Costa Rica

I'm Jose, a software engineer from Puntarenas, Costa Rica. I love programming, learning new things and solving problems — that curiosity is what pulls me into every project. I've spent 10+ years building production web and mobile apps, and today I lead engineering on large-scale platforms while shipping my own products on the side — Skillpato and Quizpato.

AI is part of my daily workflow — Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, GPT and Gemini for debugging, refactoring, code review and prototyping — always with architecture, scalability and code quality at the center.

Away from the keyboard you'll usually find me outdoors: at the beach, camping, hiking, flying my drone, or on the road discovering new places. I'm into cars and mechanics, I used to skate, and my favorite animal is the sloth.
